Leatha's Bar-B-Que Inn, Hattiesburg, MS

I am probably the wrong member of the SIF team to have reviewed Leatha's because it wasn't really my kind of Que. I don't want to be too negative because the people there were very nice, the atmosphere was great, but the ribs and pulled pork lacked smoke flavor and the ribs fell off the bone. I do not like fall-off-the-bone ribs. Fans of Applebee's Riblets would think this place was fantastic, but to me they were bland and the only flavor was from the sauce. The sauce was very good though. It was extremely sweet and had a great consistencey. The sides were hit or miss. The fried potatoes were solid. They were out of coleslaw but happily offered to make some for me. We could already tell that it was going to be a long sitting, so we declined that offer. The potato salad was runny. The baked beans were very sweet. They were similar to what us Southerners would find at a church pot luck dinner. Some people would give them high marks for that kind of nostalgia, but they were too sweet for me. Bottom line is that this place is pretty good, but didn't live up to its hype. The food was very much like what you would find at, well, a family BBQ at the park under a pavillion. To some, that is fantastic. To me, that means it was mediocre. They did get extra credit for the fact that you had to drive through the RV dealership lot to get there. Sadly, 3.5 out of 5 slabs. http://www.hattiesburg.com/leathas/
