BRONZE PIG STATUE THEFT
NOT THE MOST THOUGHT OUT PLAN...YET TEMPTING
SD County men headed to the pokey for stealing pig
Armando Cesena and Oren Hertz pleaded guilty to grand theft last month for snatching the bronze porker from outside Miguel's Cocina. Cesena was sentenced Tuesday to 270 days behind bars. Hertz received one year.
The judge also ordered both men to pay $455 to cover the cost of re-installing the statue.
The men were caught on surveillance video April 5 in front of the restaurant using a pickup to knock the 3-foot-tall pig off its base, then loading it onto the truck.
Prosecutors say one of the men eventually contacted the restaurant and dumped the pig at a local library.

Review: Voo Doo BBQ In New Orleans

Let me begin by "borrowing" a line from the cult classic movie " Spinal Tap"..."...and this review is merely a two word review ..Doo Doo BBq..."
Ok, we made it back to Doo Doo for round 2( last visit being a few years ago) . This pretty much sums up the situation; if you pull up to said BBQ joint, and there's not a stack of wood next to the bldg. and "wafts" of hickory smelling smoke billowing from a smoker/smoke house, just go ahead and get back in your vehicle, and leave. You have my permission. Because this is what will happen to you at the "Doo Doo BBQ".
I got back to the office, and dug up the link to the restaurant, and they are currently taking on franchisees ( who gives a s**t if you know ANYTHING about actual BBQ!!) If you've got the means, we'll send the BBQ beans!!
Lastly, the meat is NOT smoked on site( apparently it's delivered/trucked in daily) They are only set up to reheat the meat at the locations. Oh, but if you do take on a franchise with them, they will send out a trainer for 6 WHOLE WEEKS...Oh, the possibilities..

The Rising Sun
Okay. We have swine flu talk, and top of the line Japanese technology- a strangely delicious combo. But one thing I don't want anyone to overlook: Japanese authorities are about to test the scheme on a class of kids. I don't know about you, but if the words "test," "scheme," "kids," "infected," and "virus" appeared in the same paragraph in these United States, there would be a sh**storm of epic proportions going on the media. None the less, I am completely in favor of this type of scientific work.
Japanese using GPS phones to prevent pig flu
Here’s an out-there new use for GPS in mobiles: using it to track your movements to see if you’ve come into contact with anyone infected with a virus. Japanese authorities are about to test the scheme on a class of kids to see if it can stop future pandemics, but will it come at the cost of privacy?
Later this year, the Japanese government and an arm of mobile phone network Softbank will release a virtual “virus” on to a school of 1,000 children. The aim: to track the movements of pupils with GPS in their phones, and work out which students come into contact with the infected.
The parents of children exposed will then be messaged by mobile that their child needs to go to the doctor. It’s a clever way to stop an infectious disease spreading, as GPS can help locate potentially infected people without the need for media appeals.
There’s just one problem though: all the GPS tracking data has to be stored on a central server, and that’s not going to go down well with liberty minded adults. Still, it ought to stamp out head lice at school, so let’s see how it deals with that first before pulling out the banners and heading off to Westminster.http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology/2009/06/08/japanese-using-gps-phones-to-prevent-pig-flu-115875-21425303/

Strange Brew
Your New Drinkable Bacon
Wednesday…
It's about that time of the week when plain old coffee just doesn't do it anymore.
Now, you need something that has your familiar jolt of caffeine, but a little unexpected zing is in order too.
And that's when we cue the bacon.
Say hello to the Maple Bacon Latte—a double espresso latte spiked with organic maple syrup and homemade bacon, sprinkled with Bac-Os—available now at Pirate Radio Café.
Think of this concoction as the Canadian Mountie of coffee drinks. It's a beautiful marriage of two culinary powerhouses: De La Paz espresso beans and organic Prather Ranch bacon—providing an extra kick that'll help you sail into the weekend.
While some might say that bacon has had its moment, it's hard to deny this beloved smoked meat's continued encroachment on the food world. Upon first sip, you'll notice you're drinking a creamier, smokier latte thanks to the homemade organic bacon and bacon-fat mixture that's whisked into the milk and maple syrup, then poured over the double shots of espresso.
If you really want to go all the way, you can opt for the vegan maple bacon doughnut that's custom-made daily by Peoples Donuts to complement the latte.
But that's sort of like ordering a Diet Coke at McDonald's.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - It was a simpler sort of drug trade.
Syracuse police say a 45-year-old man offered a slaughtered pig as partial payment for a bag of crack cocaine.
They say two men were spotted making the deal on a street corner just before 8 p.m. Thursday.
Angelo Colon of Fulton was arrested on a misdemeanor drug possession charge and 42-year-old Omar Veliz faces a felony drug sale charge.
Police say Colon paid half a pig and $10 for a $50 bag of crack. Veliz told police the pig was for a celebration for a relative being released from jail.
While officers were arresting the suspects, someone took the pig.
Police don't know if the men have lawyers.
Review: BBQ1 in Marietta, GA
The place caters to more of a take-out crowd as there is really only one table inside and two tables outside on a mini-patio. We were lucky enough to secure the one table and ordered up a mess of pork products. The good Doctor ordered a "pig wing" which is a dark meat shin-bone piece of meat. He described it as novel but said he probably would not order one again. The pulled pork sandwiches come on Texas Toast and the meat had a good flavor. It's served with pickles and you add your own sauce, either their traditional bbq sauce or their vinegar sauce (we all preferred the traditional). The ribs were some of the best in the area in my opinion but Doc Clovenhoof prefers his with a little more rub/saltiness. The ribs had a fantastic smokey flavor and were tender. They were what I would describe as a true bbq rib...not over-rubbed, not over-sauced, just meat + smoke = excellence. The sides were great too. The baked beans had a sweet brown sugar hint, the cole slaw seemed to be flavored with a little pineapple juice which was a nice twist, and the mac and cheese was extra cheesy and delicious. The potato salad was kind of basic but good as well.
All and all, I would give BBQ1 a score of 4 out of 5 slabs. Great food but the atmosphere of the restaurant brings its score down a bit. I would probably order it to go next time.
