Last week I was on vacation in Florida and one of my friends from New Orleans came to stay with us. He was nice enough to bring with him one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. That sandwich is the Muffaletta from Central Grocery on Decatur in New Orleans. The sandwich is most delicious when consumed at the time of purchase, but they travel extraordinarily well. The sandwich that I ate last week did not disappoint. The bread was perfect, the olive salad was perfect, the genoa salami was great, and the prosciutto ham was truly fine swine. The sandwich was also dripping in olive oil, just like it is supposed to be.
