Community Q BBQ in Decatur, GA

Community Q BBQ in Decatur lives up to the hype. The pulled pork has a nice charred exterior and pink smoke ring. The sandwiches come on Texas toast and I added a little of their tomato based sauce, which is a little sweet and a little vinegary. They also have a Carolina-style vinegar sauce, but it's just not my thing. The baked beans had chunks of pork in them and were a little sweet as well. The cole slaw was traditional but fantastic. I also also got a half slab of their St. Louis style ribs and man oh man were they good. They had a decent amount of rub but it was not overpowering and they were moist and delicious. I have to say that they are right up there with the best in the city. The mac and cheese is one of the cheesiest and best I've had as well. The potato salad has chunks of boiled egg in it and had another mysterious flavor that I could not quite place. All the sides were tasty.
I went to Community Q on a Saturday and I was already thinking on Sunday when the next time might be that I could get down to Decatur to get some more of those ribs and mac and cheese. I could do without the beans next time and the sauces could use some work. Also, it's a little pricey for a bbq restaurant ($6.50 for a sandwich with no sides). That said, I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 slabs.

Rendezvous-Memphis

Really not much to say here. Top notch. The king of dry rub ribs in what i consider the Mecca of Swine, Memphis, Tennessee. Rendezvous. Yes. 5 out of 5 slabs.

Swallow at the Hollow, Roswell, GA

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I have been busy, but I have still been consuming swine. Over the holidays my parents and grandparents were visiting and I took them to Swallow at the Hollow. It is one of my local favorites. The place looks like an old barn, but is still clean inside. We had a variety of dishes. The pulled pork sandwiches are truly massive and the pork is cooked to perfection and served on fresh sliced bread that I believe they make themselves. A masterpiece of pig. The ribs are really good especially for those of you who like your ribs to have a sweeter sauce. Very nice char and very well done. This place is even better if you can check it out later one evening when they have the live entertainment going. Check them out at theswallowatthehollow.com I give this place 4.5 out of 5 slabs.

Daddy D'z Downtown Atlanta Review

Daddy D'z is great. It is in a very urban neighborhood and has a very gritty decor, but is still a very well run restaurant. It is a great stop before a Braves game or a concert. They were out of ribs Sunday evening, but I can't fault a BBQ joint for only making enough for the day. We went late, so we were out of luck. Oh well. The pulled pork was great. The sauce is excellent. Not too sweet, but very flavorful. If you go, you have to try one of my favorite appetizers in the world. The pulled pork fried wonton rolls. I have included a picture. It says it all. 4.25 out of 5 slabs.

Leatha's Bar-B-Que Inn, Hattiesburg, MS

I am probably the wrong member of the SIF team to have reviewed Leatha's because it wasn't really my kind of Que. I don't want to be too negative because the people there were very nice, the atmosphere was great, but the ribs and pulled pork lacked smoke flavor and the ribs fell off the bone. I do not like fall-off-the-bone ribs. Fans of Applebee's Riblets would think this place was fantastic, but to me they were bland and the only flavor was from the sauce. The sauce was very good though. It was extremely sweet and had a great consistencey. The sides were hit or miss. The fried potatoes were solid. They were out of coleslaw but happily offered to make some for me. We could already tell that it was going to be a long sitting, so we declined that offer. The potato salad was runny. The baked beans were very sweet. They were similar to what us Southerners would find at a church pot luck dinner. Some people would give them high marks for that kind of nostalgia, but they were too sweet for me. Bottom line is that this place is pretty good, but didn't live up to its hype. The food was very much like what you would find at, well, a family BBQ at the park under a pavillion. To some, that is fantastic. To me, that means it was mediocre. They did get extra credit for the fact that you had to drive through the RV dealership lot to get there. Sadly, 3.5 out of 5 slabs. http://www.hattiesburg.com/leathas/
